We Are Nutty for this Social Impact Startup

Hello friends. It’s been a busy two weeks since we last talked. But what fortnight isn’t jam packed anymore? Here’s a select roundup of a few items of note that caught our fancy PLUS a special lagniappe at the end for you all.

Forbes Features B Corp Basics
Our company’s move into educational products for social enterprises got noticed by Forbes, which covered our new online learning course for those wanting to learn more about certified B Corps. You can read more here. #SDG17

We’re Nutty for this Social Impact Startup
We had the pleasure of getting to know David Cutler and Tamara Mekler, founders of Nutshell Coolers. Their new product is a cooler that replaces insulating plastic with natural fibers, in this case upcycled coconut husks. You should check out their origin story video on their website – it’s completely fascinating and well worth the watch. Oh, and be sure to keep an eye out for their Kickstarter campaign coming soon. #SDG12

Branding Feature: Beer Label Design
It’s funky, a little bit homage to Dr. Bronner’s pioneering label artform and a whole bunch of bright and trippy rainbow hues, but mission-driven Imagine Nation Brewing Co’s Changemaker Double IPA does far more with its label than describe the contents of the can – it uses the opportunity to educate and inspire social change. You can read more here. #SDG16

Good Is The New Cool
Back in olden times when we gathered in the physical proximity of people, we attended this fantastic conference in person: GOODCon. This year’s version will be virtual, but inspirational nonetheless with a fab lineup of speakers. Produced by Good Is The New Cool and slated for March 25. You can learn more and sign up for the free live-stream event here. #SDG17

Marching to the Beat of Different Drummers
Over the past six months we’ve been joined by two talented and wonderful spirits here at Oliver Russell: Alyssa Stephens and Sienna George. Alyssa is a graphic designer and a recent grad of the stellar design program at Montana State University. Sienna is a social impact strategist and a graduate of the master’s program in social innovation at the Kroc School at the University of San Diego. Fun facts: Alyssa played the baritone in her university’s marching band (Go “Spirit of the West Marching Band”!), and Sienna was the Associated Student Body President at Boise State University. You can learn more about Alyssa and Sienna on their LinkedIn profiles. #SDG 5, 11, 12, 13 (our SDG focus areas at Oliver Russell)

Come and Get Your Love
Here at the Oliver Russell / I Love You Building we’ve got a job opening for a pro graphic designer with a penchant for purpose. (Okay, it can either be here in Boise or remote; we’ll love you wherever you are.) Job posting here. #SDG 5, 11, 12, 13 (Oliver Russell SDG focus areas)

And a Small Gift for You
Can a medical doctor write world-changing poetry in her or his spare time? Of course they can. Here’s today’s lagniappe, one of our all-time faves from William Carlos Williams, a Puerto Rican-American poet and physician. Don’t worry – it’s not overly long and just might provide the imagery you need for a quick little work break today:

What are all those #SDGs hashtags? The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are “a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.”
